I quit.

So early Wednesday morning I decided to quit smoking. Im writing this Wednesday afternoon and it'll post Thursday, let's hope my willpower stays strong. I am putting it on this blog because like with my fitness and exercise routine it helps me be accountable..I need tough love yall.

I've been a smoker since I was 15 years old. Yeah I know stupid right? Truth is I quit when I got pregnant with both my boys. I quit cold turkey for at least 14 months with each one. Then something in my life would be stressful and I'd start smoking again.

I'm not pregnant and I still very much want to smoke but I am 27 years old. Im not getting any younger its time for me to kick this habit once and for all. As of right now it's been 9 hours since I have smoked. (If I make it through the night it'll be 25 by the time you are reading this).

According to this almost all the nicotine will be out of my system in 5 days. So basically if I can do this for 5 days it should all be downhill from there right?

So far...
I have eaten like a pig today and been very on edge but I know I have this. I may be an emotional wreck before this is all over but I know its time. With anything I need to list my whys...because without a reason to keep going what's the point?

  • I want to run a half marathon, Im tapping out at 5.2 miles right now. I know I could go further.
  • My teeth, they are already bad and I need to see a dentist but the nicotine is only making them worse.
  • My kids. My mom was a smoker and well I started smoking at 15, I don't want that for my kids.
  • My skin...hey I think Im getting wrinkles.
  • CANCER... I dont want it and I shouldnt be doing something that increases my risk.
  • I want to be healthy inside and out
Okay so those are my whys and if I make it the next 5 days Im going to reward myself someway.

Okay ladies give me the tough love and any tips. I want to do this cold turkey...wish me luck!

  1. You can DO this girl. I am going on 8 months without ONE SINGLE PUFF!! Even when the stress levels are high, or I am slightly buzzed or if my husband or aunt strike up in front of me.. I stay strong. What helped me the most was 24mg nicotine with vaping. When it starts to give you a headache, lower the mg's. Trust me. Get a few of them for around your house. By your computer, by the couch.. by your bed. Within arms reach for when you are about to go nuts.

    I gained 30lbs from quitting smoking. And I have had some difficulty with it. But I am just going to have fun losing it and making it a challenge. Not to mention, I have lowered my chances of getting cancer.

    I was a smoker since 13. I am 34 now. I knew I had caused some damage because my throat had gotten a weird feeling after I smoked more and more. It felt as if cotton was stuck back there. And at times I would gag because I couldn't breath or swallow. And when I quit smoking for good and finally stopped vaping... I got really sick. And became very dizzy for a month. So be prepared to go through some big body changes once all of the toxins have left your body. Remember, it took you over 15 years to finally quit. The toxins and bad shit won't leave your body over night. Just be patient and keep doing it. You will be SO proud when you are almost at a year and not one cigarette has graced your lips.

  2. GOOD LUCK! I know that it's hard but your reasons for quitting are so so much stronger than any reason for sticking with it. You've done it before for your kids in the short term so look at it as doing it for them again, this time for the long term!

  3. The fact that you did it for 14 months before means that you can totally do it! You just need to keep all those things that you want for yourself in mind! YOU GOT THIS.

  5. I was a fake smoker for awhile. Basically I would smoke mostly when I drank and maybe like 2 cigarettes a day. I also never told anyone that I smoked because I was embarrassed. About 5 years ago I just threw what was left in the trash and avoided it at all costs. I didn't use any substitute because I didn't want to replace smoking with something else, I wanted to eliminate it. It got easier each week. Just take it hour by hour. You can do this. Then you will think all cigarettes stink and are so nasty and wonder how you did it for so long. At least that was me. :) Like I said, I was an amateur though.

  6. You got this girl. It is freaking hard (I quit last year after 20 years of being a smoker) but you CAN do it. Just remind yourself of why and fight trough those 5 days. I used Nicotine gum for the first week then said eff it and stopped that too. Now as crazy as it is I really don't even think about it any more (unless I have a drink lol but I haven't slipped).

  7. Woohooo, this is a great idea! Quit now so your kids don't have to be around it. My mom also quit cold turkey a year or so ago, I'm happy for her.

  8. You've got this! I only smoked when I was drinking then one day I was at work and wanted a cig.... I knew right then and there I had to stop my part time smoking. It has been 7 years now... I will be here to help you kick those nasty thoughts.

  10. You got this girl and congrats and good luck. I really wish my sweetie would stop smoking. He said his gma smoked for so many years and never got cancer but still.............there's a chance or heck emphysema

  11. Stay strong and don't give in! When I was in 5th grade, my science teacher showed us these videos of lifelong smokers. One of them couldn't blow out the candles on her own birthday cake because she had emphysema. The one that scared me the most was the person that had to have the hole cut out of his neck (tracheotomy) in order to breathe. Those thoughts are what helped me to quit!

  13. Good luck! You can do this! I am trying to get my husband to quit, but I've never been a smoker, so it's much easier for me to nag him than for him to actually quit. ;)

  19. good luck, girl. it's going to be an uphill battle for a bit but if you can focus and keep with your determination, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. my dad who was a smoker for over FIFTY YEARS one days said fuck this noise; i'm done. and he didn't touch a ciggy after that.

    the hardest part i heard was breaking the associations/habits (hand/mouth association etc) ie. smoke after a meal, smoking while in the car etc...a lot of smokers i knew said that was the hardest part because they suddenly didn't know what to do with their hands/mouth. a lot turned to food and they put on a ton of weight but some didn't and they've fully broken the cycle. good luck, YOU CAN DO THIS!!

  21. I hope it is going good for you!!! SO proud of you. Same boat over here, I turn 40 this year and I swear its the last year for me. I just cant do it anymore either. Smoker since 15 too and quit cold turkey for both pregnancies but went right back after they were born. Good luck and keep us posted!

  22. Congrats on such a big but important decision!! My dad has had heart surgery for his smoking problem but still even the fear of death or having a grand baby can't break his habit...it is rough I know it is. One of the things I learned in college is that you have to replace the habit because it's also behavioral addicting as much as biologically addicting. So after the meal, on a break, before bed whatever your habits were for smoking they have to be replaced or it will make it a bit harder. I have the utmost respect for your strength to quit and know you can do it. If you want message me anytime you want to smoke we can start up a convo and hopefully make you forget the urge.
